Notes: Steam Deck: - May require Proton Experimental to run Origin correctly ----- Sights & Sounds - Honestly very striking visuals. The game looks amazing. The textures, lighting, shadows, and animation looked great with barely any graphical tweaking - The voice acting is extremely good all around. Even the minor characters are voiced well - The soundtrack is extremely varied but often notably good Story & Vibes - Without delving too deep into details, you and your partner play the roles of a married couple whose failed relationship is about to culminate in divorce. That is, until, your daughters wish turns you into a couple of toys who must endure the world's stragest couples therapy - The game manages to be earnest without being too sappy, but can't figure out how to be funny without being a little corny. Overall, it's a touching and mostly lighthearted narrative, but that doesn't mean that the game isn't afraid to get a little dark - As far as the gameplay vibes go, I imagine that has a lot to do with who you're playing with. I played it with my wife (who is very well acquainted with 3D platformers), so we rarely got too frustrated with the cooperative gameplay Playability & Replayability - Speaking of cooperative gameplay, you may have surmised from the title that this game requires a partner. If you don't have someone to play on the couch with, you can always snag a free friend pass for a remote coop experience - The basic controls (movement, sprinting, jumping, and dodging) all feel responsive and natural - In addition to those gameplay elements, the game likes to throw different abilities at you on each level. This spices things up and keeps the whole experience feel fresh throughout - Owing to the diversity in abilities, boss battles also have a lot of variety. I also appreciate how the frequency and timing between boss fights is unpredictable. It avoids the formulaic "do stuff, fight boss, go to next area" format - The puzzles are usually fairly easy, but there are a few that require careful thought, precision, and cooperation - Even though I had a great time, I'm not feeling a replay any time soon Overall Impressions & Performance - The timing of my playthrough was somewhat enhanced by playing it the week before me and my wife's first anniversary. Made the whole experience a little more fun - I was incredibly impressed with how well this game managed to carry momentum the whole way through. As I mentioned previously, I feel like this has a lot to do with the game's impressive variety, both in terms of gameplay and setting. This could have been a mediocre puzzle platformer with a "Honey We Shrunk Ourselves" coat of paint, but it manages to be so much more - Unfortunately, we did encounter some heavy slowdown when we hit the snow level despite the game running well before that. Adding "-dx12" to the launch options cleared it up Final Verdict - 9/10. If you're looking for a coop game, this is the one. If you have someone to play it with, it's a must-try experience
